We are the Cochranton Community Fair - and it takes a community!! 2022 fair week has passed, so that's a wrap, but it isn't edible and the work and planning never stop. 2023 is already scheduled and in planning stages. The fun (and the work) never stop! Quoting from our Facebook page on August 7, 2022: "The day after the end-of-fair fireworks at the Cochranton COMMUNITY Fair. My hat is off to the volunteers who were back at the fairgrounds this morning, picking up trash, tearing down stalls, and organizing a multitude of things, along with organization volunteers who were cleaning and packing up their individual booths! ALL of them completely exhausted and drained from this week's heat and humidity, but there they were, continuing the job. Thank you, too, to everyone who came and supported the non-profit organizations, the commercial vendors and enjoyed the animals, different events, and exhibits! Your support uplifts your COMMUNITY in more than one way! Thank you to those who purchased raffle tickets from various organizations, including the fair (the fair desperately needs a new home show building)! The COMMUNITY at large does not see the behind-the-scenes work that it takes for a week long event like the fair (and the 12 months of planning that begins immediately after this year's fair), but it is good to know that many appreciate and enjoy the event. The fair is always looking for volunteers of any age, but younger volunteers are essential as the long-time volunteers reach 'retirement' ages. You are never 'too busy' to become part of a great team! Our current volunteers have full-time jobs, children, grandchildren, and are involved in other organizations. We are real people just like you! Some of us are retired from professional jobs, but instead of stopping all activity, they are volunteering time for our beloved COMMUNITY. Some even have health issues, but we work with and around those. You can too! Being a volunteer is one of the best jobs you will ever love and talk about at other gatherings! Volunteering sets a great example to your friends and next generations too! If the fair isn't your thing, consider one of our many COMMUNITY organizations that set up booths and tents at the fair! The main thing is to get involved and support your COMMUNITY! If you are interested in getting involved, come to our next fair board meeting, Wednesday, September 21st! (location to be announced) and express your interest and share your talents! Kudos to all, Rita Preston, Board Member and Fair Parade Secretary ![]() Our SINCERE THANKS to the C.A.R.E. Committee in Cochranton! Tonight, Melissa Mack-Maruska and Marsha Rynd of C.A.R.E. presented Pattie Kyte Fields a check in the amount of $8,144.87 for the Home Show Building Fund. They have graciously raised funds from different drives and personal contributions to help pay for the erection of a new building. We are very grateful for their support. Help! We need a Community!
The Cochranton Community Fair Board is initiating a campaign to replace the home show building. The present building dates back to the 20’ and 30’s. It has served the fair well, but the cracked unlevel concrete floor is problematic and a walking hazard. The old structure has worn away at the foundation leaving gaps for animals to occupy the building. It’s past refurbishing. In the past years the Fair Board has improved the bench area thanks to donations of bleachers from Crawford Central. The sound system now encompasses much of the Fairgrounds allowing for better communication during Fair week. Thanks to a generous donation of Jason Gilliand there is a new horse enclosure. Now is the time for the Home Show building to have it’s turn. On Monday July 18 6:30 pm at the Bingo Shelter on the Fairgrounds, the Home Show building Committee is having a town meeting to gather information from the local community. It is a brain storming meeting where there is no right or wrong answers only information gathered. The information gathered will be compiled into a plan to go forward with the construction of a new building. The Cochranton Community Fair is for the community. Yes, there is a board that oversees it, but the meetings are always open to the public and any persons interested in being part of the workings of the fair. Anyone who is interesting in having their input known or wants to be a part of this new endeavor is welcome to attend. 2022 is here, winter hanging on, but spring is on the way!
