After much debate and deliberation, the 2020 Cochranton Community Fair will not take place this year. Your Board of Directors engaged in serious discussion and debate, assessing all angles of the situation from our local organizations with booths at the fair to commercial vendors who need to make travel arrangements to join us each summer, from the 4-H students with clubs currently closed down to our exhibitors from the general public, from fund-raisers to donations, from state funds to ongoing expenses of the fair, and many incidental possibilities.
As you know, we were unable to have our breakfast buffet benefit which provides a good part of our operating funds to get the fair started. With that in mind, the questionable supply chain for our vendors, the safety concerns for our patrons and volunteers, and the financial stress on our supporters and community, it was a very, very difficult decision for us to come to.
We want to have a fair, BUT, we have to put the welfare of many others before our desire for our fun event. We will miss seeing you all and savoring all the tasty treats at the organization food stands, tossing a ball at the dunking booth, and more, but we are confident we reached the best decision possible for everyone.
We hope that all those who have been sponsors and donors to the fair will be able to utilize this opportunity towards reopening businesses, keeping businesses afloat, and that everyone is able to feed their families without undo difficulty.
Please stay safe and healthy. We encourage you to look after yourselves, your neighbors, our entire community and friends across the Commonwealth of PA and our country, the USA.
Remember to thank our farmers, our first responders, our medical workers, supply chain/delivery people, and all who have been putting themselves at risk to take care of our health, our food supply, and our basic needs.
It takes all of us, each one of us, you and me.
We are moving forward to plan the 2021 fair season.
Save your projects for next year, plan your garden strategies, talk to your animals, buy local as much as you can. One thing about it, you have over a year to make plans for your fair entries in 2021!
Put on your thinking caps!
We are and we're not quitting! We farming types just don't quit! We're shifting gears and moving forward to a new and different fair season! We'll keep you posted!
